Student Ministries
The student ministries at College Place exist to CONNECT students to a real and personal relationship with God through SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIPS with others.
Students are highly relational. If you offered a student an opportunity to be a part of something incredible, no matter how great it is, more times than not you would be asked, “Who else is going?” Students, like many adults, define their world by those who participate in it with them.
Our student ministry focuses our efforts to reach and disciple students through the lens of relationships – for us, all of our efforts come down to involvement in small groups. Each program and effort points students to participation in a small group and beyond that to serving Christ by putting others' needs before their own (Philippians 2:1-8).
When does the Student Ministry meet?
MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) is our primary program. Relationships are ultimately how a student defines his or her world. We choose to leverage these relationships to teach, train and equip students in their walk with Christ. Each Sunday night from 5-7, our Middle School students meet and from 6:30-8, our high school students meet.
What happens on Sunday mornings?
For Junior High (grades 6-8)
On a typical Sunday morning, you can expect to find junior high students in room 13 during the 10 a.m. Sunday School hour. During this time students are challenged with a relevant Biblical message from God’s Word that has one specific application point.
For High School (grades 9-12)
On a typical Sunday morning, you can expect to find high school students in the Fieldhouse during the 10 a.m. Sunday School hour. During this time, students have the opportunity to relax and hang out with some friends in our youth center. Following that relaxing time, students are challenged with a relevant Biblical message from God’s Word that has one specific application point.
What's going on this summer?
Wild Adventures Trip: May 31st - June 1st
We'll be taking the youth on a trip to Wild Adventures theme park in Valdosta. Our plan is to leave Thursday morning (the 31st), stay overnight, and return Friday evening. The cost will be $60, which will cover two days at the park, an overnight stay, supper on Thursday, and breakfast on Friday.
Pizza Inn Fundraiser: June 11th
The Pizza Inn has a program that will allow us to be the servers at their restaurant for an evening, and in return we get to keep all tips and receive 10% of the profit from that night. We're signed up for June 11th from 5pm-9pm. We have the potential to raise a lot of money that evening to offset much of the costs for our trips this summer, so it's a great opportunity for our youth. I'll send home some more specific information regarding this night with your kids as the date approaches.
OK Go: June 18th - 21st
This is a fantastic service opportunity in our very own city. It's kind of like going on a mission trip, except we serve people in our own community. The week will begin with a kickoff worship service Monday evening, June 18th, and will conclude after a day of service on Thursday the 21st. The youth will stay at the church at night and visit different work sites during the day. The cost is $99.
Deep Creek Camping Trip: July 22nd - 27th
We'll be going back to Deep Creek this year for a week of camping, whitewater rafting, tubing, and fellowship. I've heard that it's a wonderful trip, and if you've been before I'm sure you'll agree. The cost for this trip will be $180, which will include meals, transportation, the campsite, tubing fees, and whitewater rafting.
