Angel Food Ministries’ mission in Glynn County is to help relieve hunger and to positively impact family budgets with less expensive, quality food. A FAITH WORKS PARTNERSHIP WITH COLLEGE PLACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3890 ALTAMA AVE., BRUNSWICK, GA. What is Angel Food Ministries? Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
What kind of food is offered? Our food is “restaurant grade” meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which we acquire through our involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods. Never “seconds” or “day old” type products are involved. Are there other items that can be purchased? Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken, pork, and microwave meals. Many participants in the specialty part of the program appreciate the expanded choices. Once a regular box is ordered, specialty boxes can be ordered also. Is there a limit on the number of boxes an individual can order? There is no limit to the number of units or specialty boxes an individual can receive. Who can purchase the boxes?
Anyone! There are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Can I use Food Stamps to purchase a box? Yes. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system. How does the Program work? Orders and distribution will be handled by Angel Food of Glynn. Orders will be collected by Angel Food of Glynn during the first part of each month. These orders with the money for them are then turned in to the Angel Food main office in Monroe, Georgia, on a predetermined date. About two weeks later, in the same month, the food will be delivered to Angel Food of Glynn at College Place United Methodist Church, 3890 Altama Avenue, Brunswick by a pre-arranged delivery mode. What are the main tasks to make this happen? First is the order process. The second, Distribution Day, includes the presence of church and community volunteers who come together to perform duties including setting up, filling boxes, taking orders for next month, cleaning up, assisting disabled or elderly customers with carrying their groceries to their cars, managing the parking lot, and many other tasks. It is possible that those picking up food will be there less than two minutes; while others, the volunteers, can expect a two- to four-hour time of reward, working with one another and helping others. Distribution Day then becomes for many the one day in the month when a sense of fulfillment through service and a life of purpose becomes a reality.
How does the community benefit?
• Gives those who help hands-on experience and training with rewarding service to others. • Provides quality, affordable food for those who desperately need it. • Helps offset food costs for middle class families who also struggle with debt and other financial pressures -- everyone qualifies. • Each month, Angel Food Ministries makes a donation to Angel Food of Glynn, a collaboration between Faith Works, a non-profit Brunswick community outreach program and College Place United Methodist Church. These donated funds are used to sustain Angel Food of Glynn, support Faith Works’ community outreach and further College Place UMC local and connectional mission projects. • Gives community churches and organizations an effective outreach to the community to meet real needs in a genuine way -- often times drawing new participants and visitors into the mission at hand. How do we get the word out?
